Open Question: When is it unlawful for a storage owner to lock your unit?
Posted by adminFeb 20
My rent is due on the 1st of every month with no penalty until the 10th. When I went in to pay for January they said they never received Decembers so I paid for two months and as I couldn’t find my receipt I couldn’t prove them wrong. My husband paid for Feb on the 7th and when I went to the storage unit to get some things out on the 19th I found it was locked by the owner of the storage units!! Its Sunday so I cannot call and their answering machine seems to be messed up or nonexistent. On our receipt for Feb it says ‘there are no monies outstanding’. My question is how long do they have after we are caught up to remove that lock? They had from the 7th to the 19th and still had not removed it!! Needless to say tomorrow I’m going to give a good piece of my mind. I was trying to get baby items for my 10th month old daughter from the storage unit and so that only added to my anger about the situation. I’m tempted to find out what I can legally do.
